vSphere ESXi backup support

I'm testing vSphere ESXi with the possibility of deploying it at a client, along with Veeam Backup but in my testing lab, running Veeam Backup 3.1, I am getting errors that ESXi is not supported.
This is the free ESXi V4
Is this a supported product?

Hello Phil, no free ESXi 4 is not supported, as per System Requirements section in the Release Notes document. Veeam Backup 3.1 supports licensed ESXi only, and we have special offer (large discount) when sold in conjunction with VMware vSphere Essentials bundle. Hope this helps.
