Is it correct to place the Veeam machine on-premises? or is it better to place it in Azure? (considering the egress traffic costs and the volume of data exchanged among Veeam, the backed-up VMs and the data repositories).
This is our configuration:
An on-premises Veeam B&R machine backs-up several VMs from an hyper-v host. The target repository is a SOBR made of an on-premises 30TB server storage and an Azure blob storage (50TB right now). We're going to use Archive tiers (and immutable backups too, when available in Azure). We have a site-to-site VPN between our on-premises network and our Azure network.

Re: Where to place Veeam B&R VM? On-premises or in Azure?
Virtually all of our customers host the backup server on-prem, but there's no reason why hosting it in Azure won't work. Since we're talking management traffic only, it should not be too costly for egress.
