I just installed couple of Windows 2008 R2 x64 VMs. The Veeam backup seems not able to support the OS. The job failed with the following message.
Failed to perform Veeam VSS freeze: guest OS "unknownGuest" is not supported
VCB error: Error: Other error encountered: Snapshot creation failed: Could not quiesce file system. An error occurred, cleaning up...
Is the Veeam 4.0 going to add this platform?

Leslie, yes Veeam Backup v4 supports Windows 2008 R2 x64. However, this particular issue above is due to VMware not currently supporting Windows 2008 R2. Current version of VMware Tools is unaware about this OS and thus returns "unknown guest".
