Windows 2012 R2 backup proxy and Linux VM

Post by npitacco »

I manage a VMware infrastructure with several Windows 2012 R2 servers and 2 linux based virtual appliances.
Our backup server is a Windows 2012 R2 virtual machine and I noticed that when I backup one of the linux VM i have several disk errors in the Windows 2012 event log.

The most common errors are:

Code: Select all

- Event ID 55, source: Disk
The file system structure on the disk is corrupt and unusable. Please run the chkdsk utility on the volume E:.
- Event ID 15, source: Disk
The device, \Device\Harddisk22\DR22, is not ready for access yet.
(this several times , all with the same timestamp)
  followes by
- Event ID 157 Source: disk
Disk 22 has been surprise removed.
This seem to happen when the backup Proxy (Windows) hot adds the disk of the Linux VM
It could be that the proxy in attempting to check the integrity of a Linux partition, and failing as expected, but is there a way to avoid these messages?
The Event ID 15 seem to happen more often and with Windows VM
I have performed restores and tried to start Windows VM in Instant recovery, so I don't think there is a problem with the backup itself

Any suggestion?

Hi,

Do you have "automount" option enabled on your proxy? If so please try to disable it and see if the error persists.

Thank you.

I will try this suggestion, but it will require for me to change proxy. Now I was using a Domain Controller, but according to this
http://www.veeam.com/kb1882
disabling automunt on a DC interferes with the backup
Thanks for the suggestion
