Feature Request - CPU load on the host per VM
Hi,
After an interesting discussion with Veeam ONE support and Veeam ONE Task Manager for Hyper-V support I want to post a feature request for Veeam ONE.
Case 02119949 - VM CPU Utilisation on the host [ ref:_00D30RWR._500321AoyzV:ref ]
Bottom line is that we would like Veeam ONE to produce a graph of the values that Veeam Task Manager is showing. So we can accurately see what kind of load a specific VM puts on the overall capacity of the host over time. We have also been testing with SolarWinds Virtualization Manager and this tool is able to show the graphs of the load every VM puts on the host.
We need this information to do capacity planning on our cluster and more accurately determine where specific VM's can be placed within the cluster.
Kinds Regards,

Re: Feature Request - CPU load on the host per VM
Hi,
Are you asking for the functionality similar to this one where you can select individual VMs to display on the graph?
Thanks!

Re: Feature Request - CPU load on the host per VM
I don't know.
What we are looking for is a splitup of the Total Run Time % of the host into the seperate VM's.
For example:
The host runs at 50% Total Run Time. This is the pressure that all VM's combined put on the host. But as we can see in Veeam Task Manager for Hyper-V:
VM1 is a quiet VM that responsible for only 3% of that Total Run Time of 50%
VM2 is a little more busy and is responsible for 7% of that Total Run Time of 50%
VM3 is busy and is responsible for 15% of that Total Run Time of 50%
VM4 is extremely busy and is responsible for the remaining 25% of the Total Run Time
3% + 7% + 15% + 25% = 50% Total Run Time of the host.
As I understand, Veeam Task Manager for Hyper-V shows exactly these values in realtime, which is nice, but what we really want is a graph of this breakdown of the Total Run Time. But Veeam ONE does not provide this.
So we are not talking about the Guest Run Time of the VM's, but about insight into the stack of VM's that make up the Total Run Time % of the host
Kind regards,
Justus

Yes, I understand what you're referring to. Have you tried opening the Advanced display wizard (see my link above) when reviewing CPU host performance? It is not stacked, but should show performance graphs for all VMs running on the selected host. This should be helpful in understanding what the most impactful VM is.

Re: Feature Request - CPU load on the host per VM
Yes, we do use that to find the most impactful VM's based on the Guest Run Time %. And it is indeed helpful. But the Guest Run Time is depends very much on how many vCPU's you give the VM.
So a graph of the values Veeam Task Manager shows would also be very nice to have. Because it would help in even better understanding of the specific pressure on the host and where, within our cluster, specific VM's could best be placed or moved to
Hence the feature request
Kind regards and thank you for the information,
Justus

OK, thanks for your FR! We will see what we can do.
