Veeam ONE Database size and non-MSSQL alternatives
Hello,
we recently got a warning from Veeam ONE saying Veeam ONE database size is close to maximum database size supported by SQL Server Express edition. Indeed the DB size is 9579 MB currently, with 707 MB free.
Veeam ONE is monitoring a cluster of 3 VMware hosts with ~75 VMs. Is it normal that we´re hitting the DB size restrictions, or is something going wrong?
Is it possible to change from SQL Server Express Edition to some free DB alternative that does not have this size restriction, like PostgreSQL or MySQL? We do have a licensed MSSQL Server running on a production VM, but I´d rather like to keep the Veeam stuff separated.

Hello,
3 hosts with 75 should not fill 10GB of database, but there is a number of additional parameters may result it big size of DB. I would suggest to check approximate size of DB using this calculator.
You can also shorten the data retention to free some DB space.
Thanks!

Re: Veeam ONE Database size and non-MSSQL alternatives
Hello,
according to the calculator we should need ~ 5 GB database size.
Taking a closer look nearly all space in our DB is used by the tables PerfSampleLow (2700MB) and PerfSampleMed (1500 MB). Summing up all data (using the query found here https://stackoverflow.com/a/26179903 ) I indeed get a total of ~ 5 GB of UsedSpace. But on top of that an additional 3-4 GB is used for indexes (PerfSampleLow: 2205MB, PerfSampleMed: 1300MB). Does the calculator also account for this additional space? Should these numbers be that high, or is something wrong?

The numbers look normal, but difference between calculator and real size is interesting.
Could you contact support team to analyse the database?
Thanks!

After analysis with support it was noted that the size of our database was normal, but the calculator needs adjustments.
Feature Request:
Please make it possible to host the VeeamONE database on some free DB alternative that does not have the size restrictions of MS SQL Express, like PostgreSQL or MySQL.

Hello,
we have found some bugs in the calculator. We will fix it within a week.
The request is also taken into account.
