veeam one help failed to connect to SQL server
Hi
we recently moved off SQL express and on to a SQL server
we reinstalled and veeam created the DB but we are getting the following error
can someone point me in to the right direction on what permissions are needed
error "Failed to connect to SQL server. web identity user does not have rights to connect"
all i can find is this and our DBA says he granted these permissions
Public role (default permissions)
CREATE ANY DATABASE permissions
db_owner role on the Veeam ONE database
db_datareader permissions on the master database
public, db_datareader, SQLAgentUserRole permissions on the msdb database
[For Always-On Availability Groups] VIEW SERVER STATE permissions
thanks

Hi and welcome to the community.
Please provide a support case number as required by forum's rules when posting about technical error.
By the way, have you checked database connection settings? You can also test if Veeam ONE Server can connect to the database with the provided setting and permissions there.
Thanks

Check out the web identity tab in the support tool Nikita has referenced above. Should help, here is the KB to help: https://www.veeam.com/kb1599

The procedure does work, verify that you've followed all the steps once again and then contact our support team. They might be able to help you if their current load allows that.

Re: veeam one help failed to connect to SQL server
Hi, I'm experiencing the same error on our deployment of Veeam ONE. This is the 1st time to install Veeam ONE but on different server as the VBR. I'm trying to connect the SQL server instance of VBR to Veeam ONE, and keeps getting error of Failed to connect to SQL server "..."
I also noticed that Veeam ONE and VBR server have same Windows computer name but different IP add, seems that the client cloned this 2 VMs, is it related to the issue? What are your inputs? Thank you!

Hi Phia,
Cloning could be the issue, however, have you tried using SQL Management Studio just to connect to this instance from the remote machine?
Thanks!

[MERGED] Veeam ONE failed to connect to SQL Server "..".
Hi, we are trying to install Veeam ONE, this is a separate VM to VBR server. Unfortunately on the SQL setup part, when I'm trying to connect to the existing instance used on VBR, it always fails. May I ask for your inputs regarding with this matter. Also, it seems that Veeam ONE is a cloned VM of VBR, it has the same computer name but different IP address, does it affect the experienced issue? Thank you!

Re: Veeam ONE failed to connect to SQL Server "..".
Hi Phia
Please make sure to use unique hostnames for each machine. You cannot use the same hostname for a second machine.
Cloning the vbr server is not really a good choice. You don‘t need a cloned vbr server for running veeam One on the machine. And cloning a vbr server leads to issues with the installationid for some licenses.
I recommend to install a new windows vm with a unique hostname.
If that not works, please open a support case with veeam, that‘s a requirement (Forum Rule Nr. 1) here in the R&D forums before posting a technical issue.
Thanks
