Hello,
We are working through creating a VAO Plan for the Failover of our production environment to our DR site.
The failover plan is not a problem, however we are looking to also provide a "Planned Failover" option based off Veeam Replica's.
From what we can see there is no ability to have "Planned Failover" as a mode when leveraging Veeam Replica's in VAO, is this correct or have I missed something?
To work around this we would have to create pre-steps to shutdown the production VM's and execute the Replica Job (Run) before executing the Replica Failover Tasks to get a "clean" and "current" RPO.
Does this sound right?
Thanks
BT

Re: VAO - Planned Failover
Hello,
You have misinterpreted my comment, I am talking about the function of a "Planned Failover" within a replica Job.....Sync, Shutdown Source VM, Sync, Start Replica..
This can not be selected as a "mode" within the VAO Plan to simplify the steps...
regards
BT

Re: VAO - Planned Failover
Hello Bernard,
Essentially you are correct, to achieve planned failover you would use the built-in VDRO (VAO) steps of Veeam Job Actions and VM Power Actions to perform replicate - poweroff - replicate again.
Add these steps to pre-plan steps, for example -
- Veeam Job Actions - run the replication job associated with the VMs (use Wait for Completion = Yes)
- Veeam Power Actions - perform clean Guest OS shutdown of all VMs. You can use the macro %plan_vms% so you do not have to supply the list
- Veeam Job Actions - run the job again
Now VM replicas sync'd to the final state of production VMs, and your plan can proceed to failover.
Let us know if you've any questions on the above. Thanks!
