Setup of Hardened Linux Repo on AHV - VBR 12.3.2

Post by mbrowngcs »

I am working to get Veeam B&R set up on a new Nutanix AHV cluster.

I need a hardened Linux repo set up to map to an attached NetApp array over iSCSI.

Are there any good guides, written or YouTube or whatever - out there that anyone can recommend to help me go through it? I am a Linux novice at best.

I have built out a VM on Ubuntu 24.04.4 to serve as the repo but building it from there is daunting and confusing to say the least. I also have a VM on Ubuntu 24.04.4 to serve as the Veeam proxy in place.

Just looking for something less opaque than the actual Veeam documentation.

Thanks!

Hi Matt,

A YouTube search for "Veeam Hardened Repository how-to" turns up plenty, but I'd point you to our official user guide instead. It walks the install step by step.

Two routes:

Since you are on VBR 12 and it already reached end of fix, first I strongly recommend to migrate to VBR v13.

Next, I'd wait for 13.1 later this year and use the unified Veeam Infrastructure Appliance in Hardened Repository mode. It's a VM you install from ISO and update straight from Veeam, about as close to plug and play as it gets. 13.1 should also add the iSCSI mounting of existing partitions you asked for.

Otherwise for any compatible VBR version, use your own Linux server. That route needs some Linux comfort, and mounting anything over iSCSI on a self-built VM is outside Veeam's scope, so check with your Linux vendor on the how-to. Once the VM is up and the partitions are mounted, you just add it to VBR. Start with Requirements and Limitations, then read on:
