Is compact with REFS and per-VM really useful? We did some tests and removed a disk from one of our VMs and with the next synthetic full the backup file was much smaller - even without running compact once.
So does compact really do anything in such a configuration?

hmm... "compact full" is not available in combination with synthetic or active fulls
