VeeamOne upgrade after B&R

Post by rikH »

Hello a quick couple of questions. I know the correct order to upgrade is VeeamOne, Veeam EM and then B&R however what is the consequence of upgrading VeeamOne last?
Is it possible to update last if not are there any options?

Hello Rick

Veeam One will most likely stop getting new data from the connected backup servers which were upgraded until you also upgrade Veeam One.
Additionally, if I remember correctly, Veeam Backup & Replication will not allow an update when the Veeam One Agent with the old version is found on the same machine. The configuration check should list it.

Hi Fabian,
thanks for your reply,
Do you know if there is a reason to not attempt an update after the B&R upgrade, That is correct I see that VeeamOne is no longer being updated. VeeamOne is not installed in some B&R installations so maybe this isn't checked.

May I ask you something else? Why not doing the upgrade in the recommended order?
What's the reason to not upgrade Veeam One first? Veeam One v12.1 supports older versions as well.
VeeamOne is not installed in some B&R installations so maybe this isn't checked.
If Veeam One Agent is not installed, we don't need to list it. I will ask the team if my assumption (Veeam One Agent version checked on upgrading VBR) is correct.

Yes thats a fair question. To be honest it was oversight, the normal upgrade media in the KB only points to the iso with the EM & B&R. I overlooked it, So I was wondering how and if I can rectify this.

Thank you.
You can upgrade VeeamOne after VBR to get back in a supported state. There is no issue with that.

If you do get a reply on the veeam agent not getting checked if not installed I'd like to hear the answer, something else I am interested in is why don't they include a pointer for the VeeamOne update in the B&R update Kb, that would be handy, or should I inquire about this elsewhere?
Thanks

I will update the topic with the answer when I have it.

For the KB. Are you talking about https://www.veeam.com/kb4510?
The KB is for VBR+EM only. But it has a note to review the upgrade checklist first before you do the upgrade.
ISO — Use this if you are running any Veeam Backup & Replication version between 10a (10.0.1.4854) and 12 (12.0.0.1420 P20230718)*, to upgrade to the latest build of 12.1 (build 12.1.1.56). Remember to always review the Upgrade Checklist as part of your upgrade process.
The upgrade checklists mentions to upgrade Veeam One first:
https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... g-products
Are you using Veeam ONE to monitor your backup infrastructure? If yes, upgrade it first. Veeam ONE supports monitoring of backup servers version 10a or later.
