I have created a GFS job and it was approved by my colleague on a 4-eye principle. But I noticed something here and I wonder if Veeam is so smart here and works correctly:
- I have set that 4 weeks should be canceled. With several existing full backups, keep the one from “Sunday”.
- The whole job runs with incremental backups and synthetic full on "Saturday".
So, is it actually a problem if I create an incremental backup with synthetic full for Saturday and tell the GFS functionality to keep the full backup from Sunday?

Re: Understanding question for GFS
Hi David
Only full backups can be assigned a GFS flag.
It's not a problem for job. But the backup server won't assign a weekly GFS flag to the incremental backup on Sunday.
If no full backup exists on Sunday, the backup server will wait until the next full backup is created. Which is 6 days later on Saturday. The Saturday full backup will be tagged as weekly.
Explanation (with a GIF to simulate the GFS tagging) in the user guide: https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... -flag-type
To keep it simple, I suggest to configure the synthetic full and GFS for the same weekday.
Best,
Fabian
