Veeam v12.1 and DD OS

Post by mamosorre84 »

Hi,

checking system requirements for the new version 12.1, I've noticed that DD OS is supported from version 6.2 to 7.12, but "The minimum supported version for Veeam Backup & Replication 12.1 (build 12.1.0.2131) is 7.3".

So you are suggesting not to update Veeam version if using older DD OS, correct?

Is the update disruptive for older DD OS or only not supported?

Thanks
foggy

Hi Marco, v12.1 will not allow you to add anything prior to 7.3 into the Veeam B&R console (and I believe you will not be able to upgrade if it is already added). We dropped support for everything that is earlier than 7.3 in v12.1 for two reasons: earlier versions are already End Of Support from the Dell side and 7.3 is required for Retention Lock support from the API perspective.

I'm still mildly confused  : We are currently using Veeam 12.0 and two Data Domain DD6300s with OS 6.2 as Veeam Repositories.
Thanks to the security issues with Enterprise Manager we feel forced to upgrade from 12.0 to 12.1
Will the existing repository continue to work (and accept and restore backup data), or will upgrading Veeam take these repositories (hence our backups) offline permanently?

v12.1 requires DDOS 7.3 to 8.0. You can't use DDOS 6.2 after your backup server was upgraded to v12.1.

In your case I suggest to use a dedicated server for enterprise manager and only update EM to v12.1.
Enterprise Manager v12.1 can manage a Veeam Backup & Replication server on version 12.

Keep your Veeam Backup & Replication server on version 12 until you can update your DD6300.

"dedicated server"
Can enterprise manager 12.1 be safely installed onto a server being used as a Veeam Proxy for v12.0 ?
Or does a VM need to be found with ZERO veeam software present?

The proxy has these v12.0 modules present in Apps & Features:
Veeam Backup Transport
Veeam Backup vPowerNFS
Veeam Installer Service
Veeam Mount Service
Veeam WAN Accelerator Service
