Hello,
up until now we always created the underlying LVM of a XFS fs with 4 stripes and 4k stripe size (-i 4 -I 4k). Only today i found out that at least with our new flash storage a much bigger stripe size (128k or 256k) not only helps with classic RAID controllers but also with the LVM on top of that.
We were able to reduce our Veeam storage latency from over 20 ms to 9 ms at 5,5 GB/s write rate and our bottleneck is now never target!
For our new storage with 24 cpu cores the settings are:
lvcreate -i 24 -I 128k
This way every processor always has something to do and less IO needs to be issued as with 4k stripes.
