Send syslog output into local file?

Post by christian.naenny »

Hello everyone!
Is there a way to configure syslog on the Veeam B&R server to send it's output into files on a local filesystem? If this question has been answered already, please link to the original post, thanks!
Cheers, Christian

Hi Christian,

Not directly, no. That is, currently no option to print the syslog events to a local file, it must go to a syslog server.

I can see two options:

1. Send to a syslog server that lets you print the events to file. VisualSysLog lets you do this (it's meant for Syslog testing)
2. Monitor the Event Log as Events are the same.

Can I ask on the use-case for outputtting to a local file?

We have some processes in place that transfer logfiles to the logging infrastructure using Filebeat. That basically just monitors folders with logfiles and transfers all new logfiles to the logging infrastructure. If the syslog information was written to a directory on the local filesystem, we could have used the existing data pipelines. But it is not really a problem to setup a listener for syslog events from Veeam on one of the syslog gateways!
