We are running a Postgres cluster with 2x DB servers and a Quorum server.
I understand that Veeam does not support backing up clustered Postgres DBs but what is the impact or risk of not backing up the DB via Veeam and just using the snapshot backup of the host server instead?
Appreciate it's a bit of an open question but I guess what I'm asking is if is there a risk that restoring one of the DB servers or all at the same time could result in a corrupted DB or the clustering to fail? Would I be better asking this question on a Postgres forum?
Assume the recovery point is dependant on when the snapshot was taken and then within the VM when the transaction logs were last dumped?

Re: Postgres cluster backups impact?
Hi Chris and Welcome to Veeam R&D Forums!
The risk is that we have never tested PostgreSQL cluster backups and therefore cannot guarantee a successful restore, this setup is not supported. Furthermore, our support team will not handle technical issues related to the PostgreSQL backup or restore process, as this is considered an unsupported configuration.
I believe you should use native PostgreSQL tools to protect your application data. While you can perform image-level backups using our solution, please keep in mind that we cannot guarantee the stable functioning of the cluster or PostgreSQL instance after a restore. If the documentation is not clear enough, you may seek additional information regarding native tools on PostgreSQL forums.
I must note that support for PostgreSQL clusters is one of our most important feature requests. Could you please tell us more about your setup? In particular, what cluster management software do you use, and what operating systems are running on your cluster nodes?
Thanks!
