Azure Snapshot Restores

Post by ratkinsonuk »

A slightly off-topic question for the community.

We have an in-house written application that patches Windows servers on a schedule. This is currently running against on-prem VMWare servers. Before any changes are made, the script takes a VMWare snapshot of the server so we can easily roll-back of there are any issues. The roll-back is a very easy process of shutting down the server and then clicking a couple of buttons.

I've spoken to our Azure team, and although Azure supports snapshots, they're telling me that restoring a server from snapshot is a fairly awful process and involves attaching disks to other servers.

Is this correct? Is reverting back to a snapshot really that hard?

Thanks, Rob.

Hi Rob,

I believe that a default snapshot can be reverted using the Azure portal by making it a new disk. I noticed a post on the Learn community that may help you with more details/information.

Additionally, if the snapshot is visible in VB for Microsoft Azure, you could use that to perform a restore.
