Re: [V13] Appeal for VSA Licensing Consistency (Community Edition)

Post by ITP-Stan »

I was under the impression, just as some others, that we needed to have some accreditation (VCP, VMCE, ...) or be a blogger.
The reason why, is this text on the official Veeam blog.
https://www.veeam.com/blog/how-to-get-free-nfr-key.html
A list of IT professionals eligible for a free Veeam NFR license key include:
*list of accreditations, such as VMCE, VCP, AWS heroe, MS MVP, trainers ...*
No worries if you don’t have a certification: Try the Veeam Backup & Replication Community Edition — the must-have, free backup software to protect virtual, physical and cloud workloads.
So thanks for adjusting or clarifying your viewpoint.
I'll get right to it and ask for my NFR license for my homelab.

edit: I had to use blogger in the drop-down for now.

Seems I'm in the minority on this item, but I personally don't find "use NFR" a good answer to CE users such as myself. I don't use CE in exactly a "homelab" context where I can afford to lose Veeam. I use CE in a regular backup/restore context. To that extent, I like the CE licensing comes with very few strings attached to get the ISO download/installer and get rocking. AFAIK it's also perpetually licensed unlike an NFR which has an end date.

If it is indeed the case that VSA can be installed (and presumably operated/used) without a license then I guess that would be fine. Doesn't completely put me at ease though with respect to the long-term commitment to CE.

As always, sucks that those who abuse the generosity of others hurts those of us who are playing by the rules.

For extra clarity: VSA can be installed without a license but in this case it can be operated only for disaster recovery purposes i.e. to import and restore existing backups. Creating new backups with VSA requires a paid license, a trial license or an NFR license. We do not offer a CE license for VSA.

[MERGED] v13 community ver on appliance?

Post by pesos »

This won't be possible, correct? v13 community edition will be run-on-windows only?
