VBO onprem/Azure Blob repository migration into VDC migration plan

We have a lot of existing clients on VBO with repo's that are either on prem or in Azure Blob storage. With the release of VDC for M365, it would be useful to be able to have a migration plan to be able to move existing clients onto VDC for M365 and be able to retain their existing retention. Many clients are opting to move onto alternate M365 backup solutions when they know that they will lose M365 backup retention anyway.

To my best knowledge, our VDC service has a migration option for existing VB365 backups (or one is planned).
I let one of my colleagues confirm from the VDC team (@micoolpaul).

This is correct we do have a migration plan, I would just like to ask, you said many clients, is this as a VSPC offering or are these all individual installations?

We do have a framework of validated migration flows but we currently only support a subset of all possible scenarios for migration. Please reach out to your Veeam contact to start a discussion around this

We recently had a catchup with our Veeam contact already and we were told that there is no migration option that would allow clients to migrate into VDC for M365 that would allow them to migrate the previously backed up data into VDC so they can keep existing retention.

Hi,

This is correct for multi-tenant VSPCs at present. The migration tool stops the VB365 services as part of migration to ensure consistency so migrating a single tenant would trigger an outage for all customers running on that installation. I'm assuming you have multiple customers within a single installation? Or are you installing each customer to a dedicated VB365 server?
