How do Install Agent Manually as Veeam Does

Post by tegroup »

Today I got notified to update Veeam B&R from 12.3.2.3617 to 12.3.2.4165.

I was also told there's a new Veeam Agent: 6.3.2.1302

Veeam B&R won't automatically update to this new agent, so I have to remove the old version to install the new version.

The problem is, when you run the VeeamAgentWindows_6.3.2.1302.exe installer, it puts a bunch of extra software on the computer and a popup comes up every boot.

How do I run the Agent installer from the .exe to install as Veeam B&R would silently install?

Hello Trevor,

It's not accurate - Veeam B&R will automatically update all managed agents during the first rescan of protection groups. For 'Pre-installed agent' protection groups and manually managed agents you might need to follow instuctions in this KB articleVeeam Agent for Microsoft Windows 6.3.2.1302 Private Fix Deployment Information. Thank you!

Right, only standalone agents cannot update themselves automatically. That specific functionality in the standalone agent UI where you check for and install updates is unfortunately not currently prepared to see a new build number with only the 4th octet changed.

So I really want to remove the old agent and install the new agent.

If I remove the agent with VB&R, I can reinstall with VB&R but it's the old version.

What's the command to install the agent from the .exe but still get the same install as if I did it through VB&R?

You know, like:
VeeamAgentWindows_6.3.2.1302.exe /silent /accepteula /norestart

Because when I run VeeamAgentWindows_6.3.2.1302.exe it plops shortcuts on my server, and a window pops up on boot that complains about something we don't use...

I'd love to install the agent like Veeam B&R does.
