Backup of ext4 FS fails with "possible device type not supported".

Post by AlexisJeldrez »

Case #07883807
VBR Server 12.3.2.4165, Win2022.
Linux: two Oracle Linux 6.6, Veeam Agent 6.3.2.1207. Both servers are in Oracle RAC.
Volume Level Backup of ext4 filesystems, managed by Backup Server.

Backup was working correctly until the heartbeat ethernet had a network issue that crashed the Oracle RAC service. Since then, all backups have failed. The error message is:
Task failed. Error: Failed to execute agent management command getMachineSize. Failed to get partition information, possible device type is not supported.
We found no documentation covering this problem. Both Linux are using oracleasm filesystems but we're not trying to backup those FS.
We tried reinstalling the Veeam Linux Agents and we also tried backing up different directories. The result was always the same: the backup ended immediatly with the same error.
We also get the error "End of file" whenever we try to check the logs, so my guess is that something is wrong with the installation of the agent itself.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Problem was solved. The solution provided by support was adding "ignoreGraphEnumErrors = true" in the [backup] section of /etc/veeam/veeam.ini and then executing "systemctl restart veeamservice".

Hello,

Please keep in mind that Oracle RAC is not supported by Veeam Agent for Linux, as stated on this page:
Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC) are not supported.

You need to rely on our RMAN plug-in to protect databases, in addition to using Veeam Agent for OS-level protection.

Thanks!
