Veeam - Configuration backup restore from SQL to Postgre

Post by hthonza »

Hi,

I am currently running Veeam 12.3.2.4165 with MS SQL 2012. If I install the newest version (13.0.1.180) with postgre as database, will I still be able to restore the configuration?

Thank you

Yes, assuming you're talking about installable VBR software for Windows and not VSA.

Hi,
I reinstalled Veeam on a Windows Server 2022 machine and now I’m running version 13.0.1.180 with PostgreSQL.
When I try to restore the configuration, the wizard does not allow me to change the target database — the option is greyed out and stuck on Microsoft SQL Server, even though SQL Server is no longer installed on this machine.
I tried both the Restore and Migrate options, but I still can’t proceed.

Be sure to follow the step by step process for migrating configuration database to PostgreSQL from the User's Guide.

The User Guide is quite clear: to migrate from MSSQL to PostgreSQL you have to use the same VBR Version.
https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/vbr/u ... tml?ver=13

"Veeam Backup & Replication supports configuration database migration between different database engines only within the same Veeam Backup & Replication version."
So it's 2 different steps. Upgrade and then DB migration, or the other way around. You can't do both in one step.
