NAS backup without Veeam server

Post by karsten123 »

hi,
i have a QNAP NAS that is protected via a unstructured data backup job.

now, the Veeam server will be decommissioned.

what are the options to protect the files after decommission?

we have a shared VBR in our cloud, but i think that is not optimal, because backup proxy is communicating over VPN.

Hi Karsten

Veeam Backup & Replication is required to protect file shares through the SMB or NFS protocol.
There is a workaround through Veeam Agent for Linux. Veeam Agent for Linux allows you to back up mounted file shares with file-level backup jobs (no-snapshot mode), but I recommend against it. I don't expect great performance.

I wouldn’t do that either. You would still have to deploy a proxy server on the customer’s side for acceptable performance.

If file share backup is important with Veeam products, then I would keep the backup server in your customer’s datacenter.

thank you Fabian for confirming it.

it is archive data with little to no changes. do you think it is worth trying it with a proxy in the cloud?
