PostgreSQL v15 to v16 upgrade guidance
Veeam only has a KB for upgrading within the same version for v15.
On the ISO for 8.4 I see PostgreSQL v16.12-1, I would very much appreciate an official Veeam KB article which describes step by step how to upgrade from a Veeam installed v15 version to v16.
Regards,
Alex

Hi,
For upgrades between major PostgreSQL versions, follow the same steps described in KB4729 for upgrades within the same major version. We'll update the KB accordingly soon.

that is simply incorrect, installing v16 when v15 is already installed will install v16 next to v15, it will not upgrade it, the vb365 configuration will keep using v15.

Re: PostgreSQL v15 to v16 upgrade guidance
psql major version upgrade, eg. v15 to v16 needs "DB-migration" ! no matter if on windows or linux... there is no integrated psql logic for handling this!
you need to backup the psql db's: veeambackup365 and the cache DB(s) and then restore them to the new installation! (pg_admin or commandline pg_dump/pg_restore) as explained in the KB4729
if you just update v15 you can just run the v15 setup, this will just update the current versions binarys to the new sub versions!

Re: PostgreSQL v15 to v16 upgrade guidance
Hi Stephan,
yes, the current KB cannot be used for major upgrades.
However, there is another option for PostgreSQL major upgrades (pg_upgrade) which does not require pg_dump/pg_restore.
Our QA team will verify different options for PostgreSQL major upgrades, and we plan to update the KB once we have a final, tested workflow for VB365. But I can't commit to any ETA yet. We need to wait for the testing.
Best,
Fabian
