Hello everone!
We are currently in the process of doing multiple migrations from VMware 8 to HPE VME 8.1.2 and are using Zerto 10.9 as a migration tool.
Below are the steps we take to migrate:
- Prepare VM by installing VirtIO drivers (while still on VMware)
- Create a VPG in Zerto using "Data mobility and Migration" as setting
- Let the VPG run until it's finished - Start failover
- Do checks + commit
After the above steps, we successfully migrated the VM to VME but when we try to create a backup with Veeam 13.0.2.29 using the VME plugin 13.1.1.10 we receive an error in Veeam: "Failed to perform backup: Failed to match all disks to block devices".
To solve the above error we need to change the placement of the migrated VM once and after that the backup runs successfully.
Now comes where run into a roadblock.
We want to create replicas of the migrated VM using Zerto but once we create a VPG that successfully replicates the VM to another VME manager, the backup fails again giving us the same error: "Failed to perform backup: Failed to match all disks to block devices"
The fix that helped us before, changing the placement of the VM does not work in this case and the only way to back up the VM is to delete the VPG and change the placement of the VM again...
Has anyone run into this issue? We are getting this with every migration we do that uses Veeam as backup tool and Zerto for replications.

Re: Issues backing up VME VM when also being replicated with Zerto
Hello, HPE has reached out about this issue and we are looking into it. They have sent over some logs. Do you have a Veeam support case open for this issue?
