Wrong tape job statistics

Post by dasfliege »

Pretty old topic and i thought it has been fixed, but it's back again...
Tape jobs statistics in the console is showing wrong amount of data written to tape, while the report of the job is showing the right amount.
Is veeam aware that this issue has come up again? We have it on several different installations, so it seems to be a general problem:

Hi dasfliege,

I remember issues like this in previous versions, but not familiar if there are any existing known issues in v12.3.x with this behavior.

If you would, please open a Support Case and let Veeam Support review the situation.

Please share your case number once created; I quickly checked for known issues and didn't see anything immediately related, but it's possible I missed it.

This is what i got from support:
You're absolutely right. Unfortunately, this situation has reappeared. But, fortunately, our R&D team have already found the cause and confirmed that this is a purely cosmetic error. It is already planned to be fixed in one of the next major product releases.
At this moment, the information on the processed data amount in HTML report is correct and can be relied on.

Hi dasfliege,

What version are you on currently? I'm not aware of the current status of the issue and checking the previous case, having some difficulty matching the conclusion to an internal issue number to track it.

Last note I can find was that it ought be resolved in 12.3.1, but if you're on / past that version then seems that something changed.

We're on 13.0.2.29.
The issue existed for a long long time and was only fixed in pretty much one specific version before it reappeared in the following one....

Thanks for confirming, give me a bit to check internally on the status for this, as the current state is a bit unclear for me, and I'll update once I have more information.

Though @dasfliege can you confirm for me there are two issues here:

1. Remote Console statistics and HTML Report show different processed data values
2. One of the reports (console vs HTML) reports more data than was actually transferred
2.a. Does one or the other (console vs HTML) always show the real processed data values? Or neither is reliable 100% of the time?

1. Correct
2. Correct
2a. In my opinion the console always shows more then what's actually transfered. The HTML seems more accurate. However, i can't really verify how accurate it is, since i am not aware of the compression factor to tape. For the run in the screenshot it used 13 tapes which have a total amount of 128TB on them now. So i guess 60TB have been saved due to hardware compression. Our source data is non-deduped and non-compressed since it's stored on a dedup appliance. The amount that veeam calculates in the list of backups in the tape job show 208TB.
