Proxmox VE 9.2 and Future Minor Versions

Post by jpg_ops »

My understanding is that Proxmox do not backport security fixes into previous minor versions. Today, when we install updates on a Proxmox VE 9.1.x host, it will be upgraded to 9.2.x. This is true for both the subscription and non-subscription repositories. The same will happen when 9.3 is released an so on.

The release notes for Veeam B&R 13.0.2 do not list Proxmox VE 9.2 in the system requirements. I've been directed to this forum after raising a support request about 9.2 support.

What are the timescales for supporting 9.2 and future minor versions? How do we install Proxmox security updates and be supported by Veeam?

Hello,

We are currently testing Proxmox VE 9.2 compatibility and will update the system requirements in the user guide if testing is successful.

Thank you for the information. How long is testing estimated to take for establishing compatibility with the minor releases?

Where do we find the information if and when 9.2 is supported? 9.2 has dynamic load distribution across a cluster and a couple of more nice to have things, but technically we now are held back by Veeam in order to stay supported.

Is there any ETA when 9.2 is going to be supported? I just checked the user guide and nothing has changed.

With Proxmox patching, 9.1 was released in Nov 2025, and 9.2 has been about since mid May 2026. I for one would REALLY like to +1 this so I can at least keep my systems patched and up to date when critical vulnerabilities get dropped (like the latest guest to host escape). With the promise to support something soon that is already 3 months out of date, this doesn't give me great hope for the future.

(After being told by support my problem was "you are not running a supported version" then reinstalling my entire environment to 9.1 so I was, then finding the issue was due to default partitioning and nothing to do with the minor version release..)

Hi Nibblet, welcome to the forums.

As noted above, support for 9.2 is targeted for our 13.1 release, and we expect it soon. Understood that updates are critical for a secure environment, and Veeam always targets support for newer versions within 90 days of release, as time is needed for testing to ensure that backup & restore functionality is not impacted. (Within meaning that as soon as we can complete testing and validate everything's working, we can announce support.

As for the Support issue, I can understand frustration regarding no support for an unsupported version, but we cannot offer meaningful support for a version that has not been tested / validated. If there are concerns on how the case was handled, please use the Talk to a Manager button from the Case Portal to reach out to Support Management and discuss the case.
