Feature Request - VIX/VIX Equivalent for KVM (RH OVE)

Post by rmac »

Have been testing the Veeam 13 beta that integrates nicely with OpenShift. One of the biggest gaps we've seen is direct file level restore capabilities.

Would love to see a VIX or an equivalent to VIX for (KVM) Openshift Virtualization environments. In our use case, exposing our VBR without VIX would put us at risk.

If this is already on the roadmap, would be nice to have an idea regarding timing.

In a multi-tenant environment, VIX from VMware Tools is critical to isolate backup infrastructure from each tenant, as a protection against ransomware taking over backups as well as production data. However, even single-domain enterprises are looking to separate B&R from the rest of the network in order that a ransomware event doesn't compromise backups. So it isn't entirely a multi-tenant issue, but rather a great/important part of good backup design. Preaching to the choir here, but in case useful as you make your case and set your priorities. Adding VIX-like capability to allow for direct backup of files in OpenShift virtualization as well as restore-to-OS capability is an important selling point for Veeam in a VCSP setting.
