Feature Request: Add Retention Points and Backup Plan Variables to VBR Job Notification Emails
Hello Veeam R&D Team,
We would like to submit a feature request for **Veeam Backup & Replication (VBR)** regarding the default job notification email.
### Current Limitation
The default VBR job success notification email does not provide the option to include:
* **Retention Points** configured for the backup job.
* **Client Backup Plan** (or a custom backup plan identifier associated with the job).
Based on guidance from Veeam Technical Support, we understand that these fields are currently not supported in the native notification template and would require a custom PowerShell solution or Veeam ONE reporting.
### Feature Request
We request the ability to include the following variables in the default VBR job notification email:
1. **Retention Points**
* Display the configured retention policy (for example, restore points retained by the backup job).
2. **Backup Plan**
* Display a backup opted by the client.
### Business Requirement
These details are important for our operations team because they:
* Provide complete backup information in a single notification email.
* Help operations teams quickly verify that the correct retention policy is applied.
* Improve visibility into the backup plan without requiring additional reports or PowerShell scripts.
* Reduce manual effort and simplify daily backup monitoring.
* Enable easier auditing and compliance verification.
### Suggested Implementation
It would be beneficial if these values could be exposed as additional notification variables that administrators can optionally include in the email subject and/or body, similar to the existing notification variables.
Thank you for considering this enhancement. We believe this feature would benefit many organizations by making backup notification emails more informative and reducing the need for custom scripting.
Kind regards,
Bhushan Mahajan

Re: Feature Request: Add Retention Points and Backup Plan Variables to VBR Job Notification Emails
Hi Bhushan, welcome to the forums.
Understood on the request, but I do think that Veeam One is probably a better place for these sorts of details.
Can you clarify though, when you write "Backup Plan", what are you referring to? Can you maybe link to the option in the User Guide on what you want to see?
The Job Notification Emails are more intended to be about giving you a quick glance at the operational status and how the jobs ran, configuration information can get pretty dense depending on what features are enabled (e.g., transaction log backups) so a proper report probably is more suitable.

Re: Feature Request: Add Retention Points and Backup Plan Variables to VBR Job Notification Emails
Hi David,
Thank you for your response and clarification.
To clarify our “Backup Plan” requirement, we are not referring to the Veeam Backup & Replication job configuration or the backup schedule.
By Backup Plan, we mean the backup storage capacity/entitlement allocated to the client as part of their opted backup plan.
For example:
Client: ABC
Backup Plan / Allocated Capacity: 1 TB
Backup Repository: 1 TB capacity allocated for the client
In this scenario, we would like the backup notification email to display the client's allocated/opted backup capacity (1 TB) along with the existing backup job information.
Requirement
Our objective is to enhance the backup success/failure notification so that the email provides both:
Retention Points – e.g., 30 Restore Points
Client's Allocated Backup Capacity / Opted Backup Plan – e.g., 1 TB
For example, the notification could contain:
Backup Plan / Allocated Capacity: 1 TB
Retention Points: 30 Restore Points
Backup Status: Success
The primary purpose is to allow the operations/support team to immediately verify the backup status against the storage capacity committed/allocated to the client, without having to separately check the repository/job configuration or another reporting interface.
We understand your point that Veeam ONE may be more suitable for detailed configuration/reporting information. However, our specific requirement is to have these two key parameters available directly in the VBR job notification email, as the notification is used by our operations team for daily backup monitoring and reporting.
Could you please advise whether there is any supported way to expose these values in the VBR notification email, either through:
Native notification variables/fields
Custom notification templates
PowerShell/API-based customization
Veeam ONE integration
Or any other recommended approach
If the allocated client capacity is not currently available as a native VBR notification variable, please also confirm whether this could be considered as a feature enhancement/request for future VBR releases.
Regards,
Bhushan Mahajan

Re: Feature Request: Add Retention Points and Backup Plan Variables to VBR Job Notification Emails
By chance are you a Service Provider? If so are you using the Veeam Service Provider Console? There are multiple reports and Billing controls in place there which helps for monitoring these items; if you're offering services to clients, Service Provider Console is the way to go.By Backup Plan, we mean the backup storage capacity/entitlement allocated to the client as part of their opted backup plan.
Request is noted, however for the foreseeable future these kinds of report details will remain in Veeam One and the Service Provider console. I strongly recommend utilizing these as the operational teams will be able to view such reports on these systems as well (with restricted access if required); I advise reach out to your Veeam Account Representative to discuss your needs and perhaps a demonstration. We understand your point that Veeam ONE may be more suitable for detailed configuration/reporting information. However, our specific requirement is to have these two key parameters available directly in the VBR job notification email, as the notification is used by our operations team for daily backup monitoring and reporting.
Not on the Backup Server itself, currently this functionality is achieved through Veeam One / Veeam Service Provider Console.Could you please advise whether there is any supported way to expose these values in the VBR notification email, either through:
