Feature request: Display resolution VIA v13.x systems ...
Hello, unfortunately the display resolution of VIA v13.x systems has been changed. It was 1024x768 and that was perfect, if you have to handle so many different Veeam Infrastructure components.
Therefore, I would prefer it would be changed back to 1024x768 max resolution.
Especially in datacenters, where space is limited and maybe only 1024x768 monitor are used to look at physical Hardened Repository servers.
Regards,
Didi7

Re: Feature request: Display resolution VIA v13.x systems ...
Hello,
Could you clarify the request? I am not sure what VIA v13.x refers to here, and to keep versions from getting confusing I suggest we discuss only 13.1.
On every Veeam appliance, including the Veeam Infrastructure Appliance, the console comes in two parts: a TUI (text user interface) and the Host Management console web UI. Both are used to install and configure VSA and VIA systems. The TUI needs 1024x768, otherwise the QR code for MFA setup does not render properly, and the TUI is also what you use during the initial installation.
The web UI is not resolution bound because it is a web app and scales with the screen. I just checked it at 1024x768 and it works fine there too.
One more thing I could not follow: "so many different Veeam Infrastructure components". What did you mean by that?

Re: Feature request: Display resolution VIA v13.x systems ...
Of course Vladimir ...
I am referring to v13.1.1.18 first of all. All former versions had 1024x768 display resolution for the console. I am always talking about the console (TUI), not the Web GUI of course.
When I talk about so many Veeam Infrastructure components, then I mean our currently 50 different VIA-systems ...
VIA Proxies
VIA WAN Accelerators
VIA Hardenened Repositories
Now, what I said above, since v13.1.1.18 the display resolution of the console (TUI) for our VIA-based VMware Proxies is not 1024x768. I have a smaller environment, where Windows VBR 13.1.1.18 is used and there I have 3 virtual VMware Proxies. One of the Proxy is Windows based and two of the proxies are VIA-based with display resolution not being 1024x768, if you open the VMware Remote Console. Yes, they have been rebooted and I also pressed CTRL-C first. That display resolution changed with v13.1.1.18 !!!
If you have any more questions, don't hesitate.

Re: Feature request: Display resolution VIA v13.x systems ...
Ah, OK, thank you for clarification. Clear now.
And what do you see there which is not correct? I just checked VIA TUI (forced with these parameters) both vmware console and web console.
svga.autodetect: FALSE
svga.maxWidth: 1024
svga.maxHeight: 768
All seems to be fine.
Could you please also test in Vmware WEB console (press Launch Web Console button in vcenter)
Maybe some screenshots to illustrate the issue?
One more recommendation for testing: Edit VM - video card -> Total video memory set to 3MB - that should force it to boot in 1024x768 without any other changes it for me forcing the VM to boot it 1024x768 mode...

Re: Feature request: Display resolution VIA v13.x systems ...
Ok, never had the necessity to change VMware VMs Video Card settings from 'Default settings' to 'Specify custom settings' but that did the trick ...
VMware VM configuration:
Video Card: Specify custom settings
Total video memory: 3MB
And VIA-VMs boot with 1024x768 display resolution
Something I had not to do with all older versions of VIA based systems, so I suppose something changed in 13.1.1.18

Re: Feature request: Display resolution VIA v13.x systems ...
Happy to hear that!
Now back to the original issue, could you please clarify what was the issue with resolution initially? How that visually looks like? Malformed text, something now visible or the letters are too small? I'd appreciate a screenshot.
I'm asking as recently we were investigating other TUI resolution related issue (which turned to be not related to resolution).
And I also haven't found any resolution changes or enforcement made for the new patch - that's just Linux is trying to adapt to whatever hardware it sees available.
