I’m looking for the officially supported or recommended way to perform a clean-room recovery test of backups stored in Veeam Data Cloud Vault.
The goal is to restore on a completely separate VBR server (fresh installation) so we can verify Vault access and the encryption keys, without relying on the production backup server’s configuration database.
A Vault is assigned to a specific VBR server. Can I add a second VBR server there? Or will backup chains survive a temporary re-assignment of the Vault back and forth between VBR servers?

Re: From-scratch recovery test of Vault backups
Hi rschols,
V13.1 supports adding immutable object storage as “read-only” to a second backup server for DR testing.
VDC Vault is also supported (except VDC Vault Archive).
Best,
Fabian

Re: From-scratch recovery test of Vault backups
Hi Fabian, thanks for the reply.
Before this gets closed out as settled, I wanted to ask for confirmation, because I'm seeing a contradiction between your answer and the Help Center.
The General Considerations and Limitations page for v13 (section "Read-Only Mode for Object Storage Repositories Limitations") explicitly states that read-only mode is not available for VDC Vault:
https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/vbr/u ... imitations
This directly conflicts with your statement that VDC Vault is supported for read-only access (with only VDC Vault Archive excluded).
Could you confirm which of the two is correct?
If the Help Center is outdated and VDC Vault does support read-only access in v13.1, could that limitations page be updated to avoid confusion?
If the documented limitation is the current/accurate one and VDC Vault (not just the Archive variant) is excluded from read-only mode, could you suggest an alternative supported approach for the clean-room recovery test rschols described above?
Thanks in advance for the clarification.

Re: From-scratch recovery test of Vault backups
Hey @JoseM.Quesada ,
From the User Guide you linked below, the first point mentions what Fabian said, that it's not supported with VDC Vault Archive specifically, it is supported with Foundation and Advanced Vault.
The second point in the user guide where it states it's not supported with Vault, is specific to versions prior to v13.1 as Fabian mentioned, v13.1 is required for this feature.
