VM selection (guest credentials, disk exceptions) in Vsphere tag-based jobs in 13.1.x

Post by jeronimo »

Hello,

So I have case #08218750 open but from their current understanding it seems it may take a while.

Just want to make sure that nothing related to VM selection is inherently broken since sometime in 13.1.

So I have this tag-based VM backup job and as you can see in the blue window, there are already credentials created that modify the default tag used.
However I am unable to add more exceptions to it (green window).
The green window shows the tagged VMs properly, but once I press OK nothing happens.
Also I do not seem to be able to add more tags from the green window. (As we can see in the blue window some tags are already present overriding default behavior, so all of this worked before)

Same thing if I want to add disk exclusions(inclusions).

Is this a known issue?

Thanks.

Hi jeronimo,

I see similar behavior in my lab, doesn't seem correct (for both custom guest creds and for exclusions).

I'm not aware of any known issues yet so likely needs to be investigated further.

Please continue with Support on this, and if there are concerns on the case handling, use the Talk to a Manager button from the case portal to reach out to Support Management. They will review the case and allocate additional resources as required.

Turns out this apparently would be a feature request as it's a usability / UX issue.
Apparently one is unable to select VM from tag combination view by design and has to go through simple tag view (by using "show full hierarchy").
I don't think I did it like that before, but I have no proof for that, maybe I just forgot.
Certainly this could be more straightforward.
