SOBR/COS questions

Hello,

I have 2 questions about S3 capacity tier in SOBR's:

- we use the capacity tier both for offloading short term daily backups (typically from 15 to 30 days), and for long term retention (monthly, yearly..). I need to know which part of the total volume (230 TB!) is used for real long term retentions, in summary: what is the real volume of backups there older than 1 month?

- I'm pretty sure that due to various reasons, starting with VMs cancellations or broken backup chains, for example by redirected restores which become production, there are lots of orphaned files there. Seems there's no easy way to find out which ones and automate their deletion, but is there really no way at all, or some hope?

We have to migrate this elsewhere next year and define exactly what (how many TB's) we need to migrate.

I moved your topic to our Object Storage as a Target forum as it's more about that than it is a vSphere question.

I think the best built-in way of checking this would be the GFS Backup Files report combined with our Backups on Repository report.

Regrettably there isn't a built-in report that does your exact request, but working with the data between these two should help get a pretty good picture.

If you suspect that there is orphaned data on your Capacity Tier, start with a Support Case, and Veeam Support can help investigate and see what can be done regarding this.

Happy to help, and good news, there actually is a way to do the reporting with powerShell far easier than I thought, please see Oleg's post here.

I had completely forgotten we had these native cmdlets, so if the VeeamOne reports are not sufficient, it shouldn't be too hard to go at this with PowerShell now.

I edited my post above to remove the part about researching powerShell as it's not nearly that difficult
