Direct cross-platform restore from Tape to Proxmox VE

Hi everyone,
Is there any way to perform a direct cross-platform VM restore from Tape to Proxmox VE? The "Restore entire VM" wizard with "Restore to a new location..." only allows selecting VMware targets and does not offer Proxmox VE hosts.

Versions used:
- Veeam Backup & Replication 12 (Build 12.3.2.4854)
- Proxmox VE Plug-in for Veeam Backup & Replication 12.1.5.17

Scenario:
We have VMware vSphere VMs backed up to tape (via Backup to Tape jobs). In a disaster recovery / migration scenario, we want to restore these workloads directly to our Proxmox VE environment. Currently, the wizard only seems to offer restoring the backup files (.vbk / .vib) back to a disk repository first, followed by an Entire VM Restore to Proxmox VE.

Is direct restore from tape across platforms architecturally impossible due to the conversion process, or are there other direct possibilities?

Hi Timo, welcome to the forums.

No, at this time, only to VMware / Hyper-V Targets. The User Guide is not clear on this and I will get the text updated to be more accurate.

But for now, you must first stage the backups to a repository, then restore to the desired hypervisor.
