v13 REST API change: Differentiate between Performance and Capacity Tier in GetAllBackups

After upgrading from v12 to v13, we noticed that the output of the GetAllBackups REST API call has changed.

In v12, it returned only regular backups (and for a SOBR, strictly the performance tier backups). In v13, it now also returns capacity tier backups. However, the response lacks any property or indicator to identify which tier a backup belongs to.

This creates an issue for us: we use backup chains (backups + backup files) to calculate storage consumption and need to report performance and capacity tier usage separately. Because capacity tier backups are now returned alongside regular backups without a way to distinguish them, our calculations resulted in duplicate numbers.

Veeam Support confirmed in case #08238248 that this API behavior changed in v13.

Questions for R&D:

• Could a filter be added to GetAllBackups (e.g., by tier or backup type) so we can query backups for a specific tier?

• Alternatively, could a property indicating the tier be added to the backup response object?

• How does the VBR Web UI currently distinguish between performance and capacity tier backups under the hood?

Current workaround: As a temporary solution, we are using PowerShell (Get-VBRBackup for regular backups and Get-VBRSOBRObjectStorageBackup for capacity tier backups). However, our integration relies on the REST API, so a native API solution is essential for us.

You are right, with current methods that can't be done.

We plan to add that information with new repositoryType property (with values such as PerformanceTier and CapacityTier) in upcoming version, so you can split the list by tier on your side. I can't provide any ETAs as of yet.

Until then, you workaround seems viable.
