Guidance on Include/Exclude masks

Post by chris.arceneaux »

Hello team,

I'm currently working with a partner that has the following requirements:
  • Image-level backups of the OS
  • File-level backups of everything else:
    • Excluding all SQL db, logs, and local backups
    • Including SQL system dbs
  • Partner is looking to protect ~700 SQL servers but not SQL.
  • Servers do not have a standardized config. As such, number of drives and SQL file locations vary.
After testing in a lab, I provided the below recommendations. However, when the partner uses the same job configuration using the same/latest version of VBR, the include/exclude masks are not working. Support (08130326) says it's not possible to apply include/exclude to a volume but I was able to use an asterisk (F:\*) in my lab to have Veeam treat it as a folder. Am I missing something?

Job #1: Protects OS and all other files excluding required files.

Job #2: Only protects system DBs

Thanks in advance for your guidance! :D
