Backing up Exchange
We use BE to backup our mail databases. My intention is to only backup the VM. Will it causes problems with transaction logs or anything else if I backup my Exchange 2010 VM's without using the VSS options? Not using the VSS options the backups complete successfully. Using Application Aware VSS the backups always fail.

Re: Backing up Exchange
Hi, yes there are known issues with having 3rd party VSS providers on the processed VM, they prevent our application-aware processing from functioning normally. No, not using application-aware processing should not cause any issues to production Exchange during the backup, but you may have issues upon full VM recovery. However, I guess since you are also backing up mail databases separately, you will be able to restore the data from the other backup should the need arise. Thanks.
