Archive backup kept for certain number of years

Post by btmaus »

Hello all,

I get requests often to keep data for a certain number of years, across different virtual machines. This is outside of the normal backup strategy that we have.

What would be the best way to approach this?

Can I create a backup copy job, set that to X amount of years for data retention, then just add virtual machines to this job when there is a request, for a "one off" backup and then remove the virtual machine from the job after that?

Thanks!

Hi Glenn, if you need to create a standalone backup of the current VM state to keep it for longer term, you'd better use VeeamZIP. Backup copy maintains GFS retention but is running periodically and has a more complicated logic (GFS restore points are not created immediately), so is not suitable for the one-off run.

Hello All,
Please advise of the below request:
I need to replication files outside my datastore,
and if i need them later on,
i can just upload them to my data store and use them for restore,
Is the above possible???

Hi Ahmad, you can always import any previously created backups back to Veeam B&R and perform restores from them.
