Backup Horizon View Golden Image

Post by Luca82 »

Hi everyone, I have one customer that is facing some issues when trying to backup the golden image that is used by some desktop pools. As far as I understood, veeam makes a new snapshot over the already existing snapshot used for linked clones vms, that means that when the snapshot is deleted by veeam, the pool is corrupted due to the absence of the original snapshot. I'm not completely sure about that (that was just my assumptions) so I need your help to understand if I'm in the right path and how to fix it accordingly.

You will only get issues when they update the goldenimage and create new snapshot during a veeam backup that also has a snapshot and getting deleted when completed. If not it is just a backup like a normal virtual machine and it cannot corrupt your horizon pool.

Horizon will only give you a error when a snapshot in the chain has been removed.

Example1
Snap1
Snap2
Snap3

The pool is running on. Snap 3. When snap 2 is deleted your pool will give a error

Example2
Snap1
Snap2
Snap3
Snap4(veeam snap)

Pool is running on snap3. Snap4 getting deleted after backup horizon will not give you a error

therefore the issue that my customer is facing, in not attributable to snapshot, is it? It seems I need to investigate further to figure out what happened...
