backup job to cloudconnect

Post by lowlander »

Hi,

we want to backup a big virtual machine to a cloudconnect backup repository. Currently this big virtual machine is being replicated to the same service provider as a remote replica.

While not having enough space to first make a local backup and then using a copy job to transfer the big virtual machine to the cloudconnect repository we are only able to create directly a backupjob using the cloudconnect backup repository as a target.

Is it possible that we use the replicated virtual machine in the cloudconnect environment as a seed for the new backup job pointing to the cloudconnect repository.

thanks !

reflecting myself :) this is not currently possible. Just created a new backup job pointing to cloudconnect repository. Which parameters for the backup job will be most optimal for this configuration ?

Hello,
the only thing that comes into my mind is that you could probably use higher compression as the connection would be the bottleneck - right? Backup from storage snapshot would be good to avoid long open VMware snapshots.

Maybe change block size to get a little bit better deduplication but that's probably not changing anything relevant.

Best regards,

As you're a Service Provider, you should have an access to target infrastructure, right? If so, create a backup of needed VM, using a separate backup console for that. Then, copy/paste resulting backup and metadata files to a tenant's cloud repository. Once done, the tenant should be able to see those backups and map existing job to it. Thanks!
