Backup offsite using remote repository and backup copy

Post by mephisto »

Hi guys,

I'm trying to test a solution for offsite backups where the destination is a Windows Repository and my idea was to get all VMs using a backup job offsite.

I've created a normal backup job which run to an external USB 3 drive daily, then I copied this file to another USB drive and brought it back to my office and copied the file to the repository location.

The repository has been scanned and the backup file has been imported.

Now on the backup copy job when I try to map the backup copy to this seed backup copied to the repository, it is simply not listed under the repository options during the mapping of the backup.

If I go to backups imported, the backup file is there! I don't understand!

Is this possible? How can I work around this?

My aim is just to make a backup copy job offsite using a windows repository.

What kind of backup it is (should not be reverse incremental)? Have you also copied the VBM file along with the backup to the target repository?

IT it reserve incremental at source, but I copied only the latest full file. Does it work in this way?

I'm going to copy the VBM file now, but if it doesn't work with reverse incremental then it will change my plan.

In which other ways could I get the offsite backup seed working?

Mapping to a reverse incremental chain is not supported. You could create a local backup copy job to get a new chain that then can be transferred offsite and used for mapping.

does it apply for any sort of backup that I'm trying to map as well?

This applies to mapping the backup copy job only.
