Backup over WAN with only one initial transfer + forever inc

Post by dk2k »

Hi there,

I would like to pitch a new backup concept to a customer how already uses Veeam. The Scenario:

The Small Sites have a local veeam backup / Cache that keeps their VMs for ~14 days locally and the Small sites transfer their backup once a week to a main site / or the could via WAN.

What you don't need there are multiple Full Backups via WAN. Is there any constilation that would enable me to have local 14 days (every 24h) backup @site and the ability to collect the backup every week via WAN to a main site without ever transferring a full backup again? I have read many articles about the copy Jobs but dont quite get it, if they would make sure that I only have one full backup via WAN and after that "forever incremental".

Thanks for your time.

Daniel, backup copy jobs are exactly designed to create synthetic copies of backups to a secondary location, and they are indeed forever incremental.
You can also leverage Veeam WAN acceleration for backup copy jobs to further reduce the amount of data transferred over wan.
