Backup/Restore of vSAN Witness Appliance

Post by Tos »

Hi

Our prospcet customer want backup/restore of the below vSAN Witness Appliance by using Veeam;
https://blogs.vmware.com/virtualblocks/ ... olidation/

Does Veeam have a track record of backup/restore vSAN Witness Appliance ?
We would be glad if there was a best practices document.

Hi Tos,

The vSAN witness appliance doesn't need to be backed up by Veeam as it only contains vSAN object metadata and not any actual VM workloads.

In the event of a failure of the vSAN Witness, VM workloads will continue to run as long as you have access to both the full data set and quorum. You would then be essentially running as FTT=0 until you get the witness back. At that point you would have just to re-deploy the vSAN witness appliance
