Backup vCenter and SQL Without Workaround in v7

Post by jlester »

To backup our vCenter and SQL servers, we have to use the workaround where you point Veeam to the host running those two VMs versus using the vCenter setup. So, we have affinity rules setup to always keep those two VMs on the host that the backup is pointed to. I vaguely remember reading that v7 can now handle backing up vCenter and SQL without that workaround. Are there details anywhere on how to set this up properly?

There's nothing to setup, you just back them up as normal VMs. I'd probably suggest backing up the vCenter and SQL server in the same job together, but even this isn't a requirement.

Thanks, it worked great. Much faster since it can use Hotadd versus network. We were also apparently having a CBT issue with those two servers that is now fixed.

I have a Local DB and use SQL express. Backup as Normal VM does this mean I can use CBT and Application Aware and add it to an existing Job?

[Merged] : Vcentre 5.5 backup / Veeam 7

Hi all

is there a best practice guideline for backing up the vcentre server with veeam 7? I know previous versions you had to backup via the host directly but has this been fixed in veeam 7? can i just back it up as a normal machine?
in addition would you advise backing up the SQL database server that holds the database for vcentre at the same time?
Thankyou

Hi, Nick, with the version 7 you don't have to use any workarounds any longer. Nowadays, you can backup vCenter VM as a common VM without any issues.

Thanks.
