Cannot Create Application-consistent snapshot(BfSS)

Hi,

If we use storage snapshot only job, Veeam create Application-consistent snapshot.
However if we use BfSS(backup to repository and set primary storage snapshot as secondary backup destination) job, Veeam create Crash-consistent snapshot.
Both jobs are enabled VMware Tools quiescence.


Is this a specification?

And Veeam does not handle VMware snapshots when performing Instant VM Recovery from Crash-consistent snapshot.
As a result, a temporary Veeam snapshot(created by backup job) will be remained on recovered VM.


This snapshot is very annoying as it also affects the migration.

Hello,
the "crash-consistent label" looks like a UI issue to me. Support should be able to verify that.

For the VM snapshot: it must be there. That's how it is described in the user guide (https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=100)
1. create VM snapshot
2. create storage snapshot
3. delete VM snapshot

As you probably already found out, the migration works if you delete the VM snapshot manually.

It is not UI issue.

When I look at the Instant VM Recovery logs it shows that it is crash-consistent.

After instant VM recovery, need we manually revert to a VM snapshot and delete it?

I think this is correct. Why don´t you use the Veeam Guest processing instead of the VMware tools quiescense?

first of all: We recommend Application aware processing over VMware tools quiescing (I only have a Linux VM in my lab. switching to Veeam AAIP does not change the crash-consistent UI output).

Support needs to check, whether it's a real issue, or a UI issue.

No, I did not revert the snapshot. I just deleted the snapshot before migration.

It is a known limitation. So Veeam own Guest processing (Application Aware processing) is the way to go.

Because this VM is Cent OS 8.
And, now I tested Windows VM with enabled Veeam AAIP, it was same result.


When restoring from the storage snapshot retained by BfSS job, Veeam seems to restore with Crash-consistent.
