Case # 01240394 - Error restoring large critical VM

Post by rreed »

Afternoon everyone. We're performing a fire drill test full VM restore of our largest and most critical file server. After running for around 50 1/2 hours it bombs out w/ "Error: Application is shutting down. Unable to retrieve next block transmission command. Number of already processed blocks: [183933]. Failed to download disk. Agent failed to process method {DataTransfer.SyncDisk}. Exception from server: Operation is terminated. Failed to upload disk." "Restore job failed Error: <same stuff as above> Exception from server, Operation is terminated. Failed to upload disk." This is at about 1.4TB of this particular 2.2TB HDD (multiple HDD's on this VM).

It had at least some of the VM's HDD's restored at this point, and little over half of this particular HDD restored before bombing out. I've been able to restore small VM's w/o issue lately during this round of fire drill test restores. Same environment/setup, just small VM's (40-450GB) vs. this large one.

Any ideas?

There's an existing thread dedicated to this type of errors. However, deep logs analysis is typically required in such cases, so please continue working with support.

Thanks foggy, sounds like our case might be due to a single potentially bad block of data stopping the whole show. We're trying a different agent on a dedicated proxy to see if that fixes it. We'll be putting the backup file validator tool into service as well.

Getting this going today, but it might be some time next week before I have results, as this particular restore is expected to take 3+ days. I'll report back when I have progress.
