Changing from Fwd Incremental to Fwd Forever Incrementals

We've got many TBs of synthetic fulls over a year or so of backing up some VMs.

Just wanting to clarify whether we need to recreate backup jobs to go from Forward Incremental with Synthetic Full to just Forward Incremental or is Veeam 8 smart enough to simply continue the existing VBK chain and when it reaches the retention point it will remove the now defunct backup chains containing synthetic fulls?

No need to recreate a job, just disable both active and synthetic full backups. New forward forever incremental backup mode will be utilized in this case. Thanks.
