Delegate backup&restore to different users?
Hi,
with v6 we want to redesign our VM-backup which currently is only one physical v5 backup server.
In our VMware-setups we have different admin-groups who have control over their assigned VMs through vcenter.
I want to "map" this somehow to backup&restore, so that a specific admin-group can only create create/modify/delete b&r jobs for their assigned VMs.
Is there a way to do this in v6? Perhaps somehow a combination of backup server or proxy per admin-group?
Many thanks in advance!
Regards
Joern

Hi Joern, no this is not possible with a single install. To achieve that, each admin group should deploy their own backup server. Thanks!

Re: Delegate backup&restore to different users?
Hello Anton,
then each backup server is connected to the same VCenter host.
During installation of the backup server admin credentials for VCenter are necessary. So we have to create different admin accounts. Do you know the VSphere rights necessary to backup successfully (datastore access, ...)? I cannot find this in the user's manual.
Many thanks!

Please refer to the following topic: vCenter Server Granular Permissions.

Delegating permissions
[merged]
Hi,
Is it possible in Veeam to delegate permissions to particular hosts to a specific group of users? For example, I'd like the DBAs to be able to recover the data files for databases on specific hosts but nothing else. This would be on both Linux and Windows hosts.
I see that I can delegate other users as, for example, restore operators but it doesn't seem that it can be limited to a group of machines?
Cheers,
Steve

Re: Delegate backup&restore to different users?
So it sounds like the short answer to this is No, unless separate backup servers are deployed for each group?
Even then I don't really want them to be able to restore entire VMs as such, just the database data files for example.
Cheers,,
