Editing the job name of a .vbm file
Hello All,
Thing I want to do:
I want to keep only yesterday's restore points.
Therefore, create a new folder in the repository, copy all the .vbm, .vbk, and .vib files to the new folder, perform a rescan on the repository, and confirm that it is displayed in 'Disk (Imported)'
And change the job name displayed in 'Disk (Imported)'
Operation:
Changed "JobName =" "in .vbm to the other name
Result:
The job name displayed in 'Disk (Imported)' has been changed
Question:
Is there any impact such as failure of restore due to the above operation?
Thank you.

Re: Editing the job name of a .vbm file
I think imported backups are only backups which were either not performed by the B&R server you're currently logged onto or old backups where the backup job definition has been deleted. In terms of performing restorations they should appear as a restore point within the normal restoration functionality. You can't backup to them as they have no definition or were disassociated with the definition so the chain will be broken, but restores should work as normal. That's how I understand it anyway.

Hi ejenner,
yes, this backups are old.
My concern is that I thought something impact to restore by changing the metadata (job name).
Is there any impact on restoration by changing the content of the metadata?
Thank you

Re: Editing the job name of a .vbm file
Hello!
Any kind of manual update of .vbm content can be performed by support team only.
It's not possible to predict which issues may happen due to such update, by the way not only restore functionality might be affected.
Please keep in mind that import by .vbk is the option as well: .vbk itself and dependent increments will be imported (as long as you use forward incremental mode).
And I'd like to ask one question:
Why it's necessary to rename backup set that you're going to import?
Thanks!

Re: Editing the job name of a .vbm file
Our customer wants to:
1. I want to keep the backup yesterday for a long time
(You do not want to keep a specific restore point regularly, you need to keep yesterday's restore point as a requirement)
2. Create a new folder in the repository and copy the backup files you want to keep in that folder
3. Confirm that it is displayed in Disk (Imported) by performing a rescan.
4. However, Disk (Imported) is displayed with the job name included in the metadata.
Questions from them
---
Is it possible to rename the job name displayed in Disk (Imported) to make it easier to identify the restore point?
---
In response to this question, I changed the job in the metadata with Notepad, and the job name displayed in Disk (Imported) was changed.

I believe backup export functionality fits better for this use case.

Agree with @foggy.
Upon export, the restore point you chose will be:
a) an independent full backup.
b) named after restore point + date suffix.
Thanks!
