Eject USB drive after backup

Post by Tutek »

Hi,
I would like to configure USB passthrough on my host server and then on Veeam connect USB 3.0 drive and create something like "cold backup". This drive should include full backups files created once a month.
Here I have two questions:
1.It is possible to schedule export backup job from my daily backups that are located on NAS drives, rather than create new backup job with destination USB 3.0 drive to do this?
2. Is any way to automatically eject this drive when the backup is completed to become invisible on windows system environment? As I understand I will have to manually eject and connect again this drive to become visible on windows before next backup date, right?

1. Export-Restorepoint cmdlet currently doesn't let you specify a target as far as I know, so you'll need to export and copy, but I think it's just better to set up a Backup Copy and script the -FullBackup parameter. I think if you just leave the Backup Copy disabled, you won't get increments this way as I'm assuming you want to avoid that.
2. Post-Job script should do it for you to just tell Windows to dismount and eject the drive. As you noted though, you'll need to make sure you have the drive connected before the next backup date.
